Im sure most of you readers have already heard about this case - and its not exactly related to the purpose of the blog. But I do think it showcases some of the struggles that Asians still have to deal with in North America today.
Below is a clip of the debate between Ko (Organization of Chinese Americans) and Brown (Texas State Rep) regarding the confusion with Asian names and being turned away at voting polls for not having names matching official documents.
The well known quote that has drawn a lot of attention is this one said by Brown,
"Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese-I understand it's a rather difficult language-do you think it would behoove you and your chinese citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?"
